# Duration deserves attention at Idaho Hormones

> Idaho Hormones — a hormone field station — Idaho Hormones follows CJC-1295 through albumin binding, hormone pulses, mouse growth and changes in blood proteins. A personal research notebook.

**The field station**

I expected duration to be the whole story. Then the pulse record complicated it. There is more to a hormone signal than its height.

## CJC-1295 duration

The striking result is how long it lasted. In healthy adults, [CJC-1295 raised mean growth hormone for 6 days or more and IGF-1 for 9–11 days after a single administration](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/16352683/). IGF-1 is insulin-like growth factor 1, another hormone measured in that study. These are observations about the time course of a response, and I think the time course deserves a closer look.

The field station in the picture is an imagined place to watch a changing signal. A single high reading sends me looking for the rest of the record: how long did it stay high, and what happened between the peaks? The [human pulse experiment](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/17018654/) supplies a particularly awkward answer. The background rose while the pulse pattern persisted. I prefer that complicated record to the tidy idea of a level going up.

## The observation files

Start at the attachment. The [albumin essay](/albumin) follows the chemical design into the healthy-adult duration measurements. It is the place to separate the persistence of CJC-1295 itself from the persistence of the hormone response.

The [pulse record](/pulse-record) looks at the gaps between bursts. A long stimulus had suggested a flat record to me; the measurements forced a more interesting picture. The [mouse-growth experiment](/mouse-growth) then moves from hormone levels to body weight and length in a very particular animal model.

Finally, [the protein trace](/protein-trace) looks at changes in human blood and at a separate chemical-identification problem. A hormone trace, a growth measurement and a protein profile carry different questions. The [reading list](/references) brings the underlying papers together.

## Exposure over time

A long response is an impressive piece of pharmacology. I distrust duration as a shortcut to deciding whether an intervention is worthwhile. The [healthy-adult study reports sustained GH and IGF-1 responses](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/16352683/); I admire the persistence measured here.

My next question concerns the person at the far end of the record. Does a measured change accompany a useful change in daily function, and what unwanted effects appear during follow-up? Those are questions for further clinical work. I would rank that work ahead of another demonstration that the level can be raised. For now, this notebook stays with the observations these experiments actually offer.
